This costume was made for a 50s retelling of Romeo and Juliet, with the character of Prince Escalus being reimagined as a show producer. I used 1940s patterns for the trousers and adapted two patterns to create the shawl collar on the waistcoat.Â
The trousers were constructed from wool, with a reinforced waistband and placket front, and red duchess satin strips on the pocket edge. Waistcoat of cotton flannel, lined with duchess satin, with the shawl collar and bow tie of poly silk.
There are unfortunately no production photos of this costume as the show was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Original design by Jacqueline Slade of Stiltskin's Soapbox Children's Theatre, Plymouth.
